The full performance splice that is stronger than the reinforcement bar and guarantees bar break under tensile stress.

Bartec is a parallel threaded mechanical splice designed for the connection of concrete reinforcement bars, for diameters 12 to 56 mm.

CUTTING

The end of the reinforcement bars is sawn square
COLD FORGING

The essence of the BARTEC system consists in a Patented method of enlarging the end of the reinforcement bar by cold forging, thus increasing its core diameter.
THREADING

An ISO standard metric thread is then cut or rolled

  •   Bar-break feature guarantees fully ductile elongation.
  •   No reduction of the bar cross-section area.

    which translates into

  •   No torque wrench required.
  •   Assembly validated by visual inspection.
  •   No cross threading possible.
  •   Manufacturing of couplers under strict quality plans.
  •   Industrial productivity of thread manufacturing.
  •   Standard ISO Parallel Metric Thread design.

  •   Industrial productivity of thread manufacturing
      (high output of the equipment).
  •   Standard ISO Parallel Metric Thread design.

TYPE A

TYPE B

When the continuation bar can be rotated. The assembly is achieved by running the coupler to the end of the thread on the fixed bar (at the production line) and rotating the continuation bar up to full engagement (at the construction site).

When the continuation bar is too long or too heavy to rotate. The assembly is achieved by butting the bars and rotating the coupler until full engagement.

TYPE C

WELDABLE
When the continuation bar cannot be rotated. The assembly is similar to type B and is then completed when the lock-nut is tightened.   The coupler is welded to the steel member by filling the chamfer with a welding ribbon. The continuation bar is rotated up to full engagement.

1. Characteristics of thread
    –> standard metric thread

2. Preservation of rebar cross section area

    –> 100%

3. Built in safety factor

–> 40% above required thread area

4. Minimum designed yield stress of coupler assembly

    –> 575 N/nm2 at least

5. Minimum ultimate tensile stress of coupler assembly

    –> 800 N/nm2 at least

1. Mode if failure
–> Bar break away from the joint

2. Performance of joint
–> superior to rebar tensile strength

3. Linear elongation of parent bar after failure
    –> Measurable

4. Permanent elongation
    –> 0.1 mm

1. QC of assembled joint on site
    –> Visual inspection only

2. QC of threaded end ex-factory
–> Thread gauges & screwing test

1. Supervision in fixing of couplers
–> Minimum supervision only due to visual inspection

2. Improper engagement and / or tightening
–> impossible due to metric thread

3. Tightening of joint
    –> No specific torque required

1. Example of rebar diameter 25mm
–> 10,000 splices per month per shift
