Qatar Mega Reservoirs, Qatar
Qatar’s General Electricity & Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) is currently constructing fresh water reservoirs to store the equivalent of seven days’ worth of Qatar’s national fresh water consumption at World Health Organization (WHO) standards. The primary reservoirs are located at five sites in the Doha area: Um Baraka, Um Salal, Rawdat Rashid, Abu Nakhla, and Al Thumama.
The first phase of the project involves the construction of five mega reservoir sites to support the expected water demand by 2026. The second phase includes the addition of 16 more reservoirs within the five existing mega sites. With a capacity of 3.5 million m³ each, these reservoirs are among the largest of their kind in the world.
For this project, Dextra Middle East supplied more than 3 million Bartec couplers to the rebar fabricators and contractors involved in the various project packages.
Project specifications for corrosion protection require that the entire reinforcement system, including couplers, be epoxy-coated. Therefore, Dextra is supplying all Bartec couplers with epoxy coating, giving them a distinctive green appearance.
Couplers are used in the raft and columns across the different reservoirs to reduce steel congestion and generate cost savings.
