Ras Abu Aboud Stadium, the 2022 FIFA World Cup Venue
Ras Abu Aboud Stadium is an under-construction football stadium in Doha, Qatar, with a capacity of 40,000 spectators.
This project has been specifically designed to accommodate the FIFA World Cup tournament in 2022: the stadium will have a modular design, using recycled shipping containers, removable seats and other modular building blocks that will be entirely dismantled and repurposed after the event.
Dextra supplied more than 600 sets of carbon steel tension rods for the cross-bracing of the roofing and bowl structures, as well as staircase, catwalk and ramps. The tension rods are ranging from bar thread size M20 (dia. 19 mm) to M72 (dia. 70 mm).
Upon its expected completion in 2020, the Ras Abu Aboud Stadium will set a new standard in sustainable construction design.
